week 2 >A PIECE OF JEWELLERY IN ANOTHER CULTURE

The length of the Greenstone Maori Hook is approximately 20mm (3/4"). It hangs from a traditional black adjustable cord.

The Maori Fish Hook carries a spiritual meaning, of strength, prosperity, peace, good health, good luck and safe travel over water. So it makes a great gift for the fisherman, surfer, and anyone needing some help with their strength, health or general good luck.

Pounamu refers to several types of hard, durable and highly valued nephrite jade, bowenite, or serpentinite stone found in southern New Zealand. Pounamu is the Māori name. These rocks are also generically known as "greenstone" in New Zealand English.
Pounamu plays a very important role in Māori culture. It is considered a taonga (treasure). Pounamu taonga increase in mana (prestige) as they pass from one generation to another. The most prized taonga are those with known histories going back many generations. These are believed to have their own mana and were often given as gifts to seal important agreements.

I really like the Maori greenstone jewelry. Maori jewelry includes their unique culture and beliefs, living in New Zealand Maori for centuries to establish their own culture and have maintained their cultural beliefs and traditions. I really like the Maori jewelry jewelry because they are natural and they are reflected in the lives of correlation. Trees, plants, hooks and gods. Pictures on this hook shape necklace, I guess when they are worn out to sea, represents luck and courage, like a talisman to protect the sea of people, but also like a spiritual force them to give them more support courage and strength to overcome difficulties, peace return.
